Carpets can make your home more inviting. They add a nice look, but easily turn into dirty, stained and smelly rugs. Here is how to undo this and remove carpet odours and stains like a pro.

Things get worse when you have pets. Accidents happen, and stains and odours occur. Any carpet cleaning company will deal with this at once. But thanks to the kind advice of our partners, you can try dealing with stains and odours on your own. Here is how.

The products needed are:

microfibre cloth
baking soda
½ cup hydrogen peroxide
spray bottle

Tip 1: Act quickly – stains are removable when you attack them immediately. Even red wine spills can be undone. Don’t let them sit, attack them. Coffee and red wine spills are among the toughest to remove according to carpet cleaning London. Here is how to treat them:

Mix 2 spoons baking soda with a quarter cup of hydrogen peroxide. Fill the spray bottle with the mixture. Leave some baking soda for post-treatment.

Tip 2: Treatment – Spray directly on the stain. Press carefully and rub gently with the microfiber cloth. Rinse with a damp sponge and then spray again. Repeat until the stain disappears and leave the mixture to sit for 15 minutes, if the stain persists.

Tip 3: Final blot and rinse -  Try drying the stain by gently rubbing and pressing the treated area with a dry microfibre cloth. You can air dry it with a fan, placed in front of it.

Tip 4: Deodorizing -  sprinkle the remaining baking soda on the entire carpet. Leave for 30 minutes and then vacuum the carpet. Any remaining smells will be neutralized.

Precautions: keep your cleaning products, even home-made ones, out of the reach of children. They are mild solutions, but are still toxic if inhaled or swallowed.
